A day at The Parent and Baby Show in Norwich

written by Bella Drew 17 May 2018

Last year we attended The Parent and Baby Show with Primrose who was only a couple months old at the time. You can read attending the baby show from Conors perspective here.

This year the show seemed even bigger. It was held at the Sportspark at the UEA and it was all on one floor, which made it nice and easy with the pram. We were going to take the carrier but I needed storage for all of the goodies that I planned to pick up.

The Parent and Baby Show

Mama Cates speech on parent blogging

the parent and baby show

We joined in with Mama Cates workshop on ‘How to be a Mama blogger’ and found it so interesting. She talked about engagement, content and how she became a mam blogger. This is the first time I’d met Elizabeth and it definitely won’t be the last! She’s now starting to run her own meetups!

Mini first aid

the parent and baby show

Mini First aid held a talk about choking which we found so useful. After an incident with Primrose we very much believe every parent should attend a first aid course before weaning, just to be safe. They explained why you shouldn’t hit someone’s back when they are choking and the best thing you can do is to make them cough. With babies their gag reflex is so far forward that they are more likely to gag and gagging isn’t choking which a lot of people get confused about. We came away feeling very informed and we would definitely recommend them to anyone who starting weaning in the future.

Baby Sensory

We visited the baby sensory zone which had little tents with different sensory ideas in each one. There were lots of musical instruments and fluffy pillows for primrose to lounge on. She loved watching all the lights whilst chewing on a rattle!

Primrose loved visiting the Gymboree zone. I think she’s at that age where she can really enjoy things like this which was lovely. There were different pools filled with a variety of sensory things, bubbles, things hanging from the tent and lots of different material to explore.

She sat in the pool full of wonderful sensory items and played with Papa whilst Mama went off to do some retail therapy.

Things to buy

There were so many beautiful stalls this year. We loved all the baby clothes, accessories and toys!

Food (although nothing dairy free)

There were wonderful cake stalls packed full of goodies but unfortunately, they didn’t have anything dairy free. Conor enjoyed a huge slice of cake though.

Birth photography and hypnobirthing

Jennifer Sarah’s birth photography was there, she was my hypnobirthing instructor during my pregnancy. Her stall was so beautifully cosy and homely, set up like a living room. We had an absolutely fab birth thanks to Jen and it was lovely to be able to catch up after all this time. If you’re pregnant I highly recommend Jens hypnobirthing classes, my birth couldn’t have gone more smoothly if I wanted it too. I tell everyone about it as I can’t get over how amazing it was thanks to Jen.

Norwich sling library

What’s better than having your hands free whilst you carry your baby? Nothing. The Norwich sling library had a stall at the parent and baby show this year. This is where we hire our carriers from. We love the Beco 8 and Lillebaby complete. If you’re thinking of getting a baby carrier make sure you check them out as they help you fit them and choose which is the most comfortable for you.

Shellie wall photoshoot

Every year Shellie Wall has a pop-up photo studio at the parent and baby show. She has amazing offers on for a quick shoot and some digital prints. We had to book Primrose in for a session. She absolutely loved it, and Shellie was amazing as always. It seems crazy that 7 months ago she photographed my birth. It has gone far to quickly, but it was lovely to catch up. We’ve booked Primrose’s cake smash with Shellie for her 1st birthday!

We had a blast at the parent and baby show this spring and can’t wait to return in September when Primrose will be a year old so well have a lot more exploring to do of the soft play, face painting and sensory areas!

Did you know the parent and baby show have a new magazine out that were featured in? If you didn’t check it out below! It’s supported by local businesses and lots of information and advice from us local parents.

Don’t forget to book your tickets to the parent and baby show in September!
